A New Pop Act — Riversyd!

|

They describe themselves as a group all about “loving your own culture, empowering the marginal, and embracing change.” There’s no doubt about it, this new group will definitely mark themselves as the first independent P-Pop group. Their name? Riversyd.

It started with a project of Kamaru Productions and aims to “give Pinoy Pop Music a whole new twist — keeping up with the global trends in popular music while channeling the sounds and visuals that make us distinctly Filipinos.” The result is a group consisting of two girls and three boys from Pampanga and Tarlac.

The members of Riversyd are: Racko (Rock-O), Jhoan (Jo), AJ (Aer), Ghette (Jet) and Ryan (Ryde). Their dancing prowesses can be seen in this preview video.

Soon, according to Kamaru Productions head Jason Paul Laxamana, there would be more members added to this group.

Riversyd has recently released a teaser for their song called “Shades”. It is produced by Jason Paul Laxamana, with music composed and arranged by Diwa De Leon, lyrics by Rock-O and Jason Paul Laxamana and recorded and mixed by Aldrene Tuazon.

There would be a dance music video for this song and it will feature Filipino hiphop costumes from designers Joel Layug and Rop Syquia.

Stay tuned here on popsicles.ph for the full track and the music video plus more updates!

it was kinda cool actually! the beats and the melody is cooler than a lot of other weird stuff we’ve been coming out with. Some of the things scared the hell out of me they were so loud though, like when they screamed “HEY!” I nearly wet myself haha. I look forward to them editing this song and putting out something good. they actually seem REALLY promising!!! good luck guys :)

the spelling of riversyd … is interesting. and even then riverside is an interesting name for a pop group?? O_o

I don’t see the talent. I don’t even see the “loving your own culture” thing stated in the article. I can’t understand half of the song.

Most of them are off pitch. The song has no concrete melody, even rap should have flow, not just speaking fast. All I could understand was “Paa, tuhod, balikat, ulo” and something “Astro” (whatever that means).

I can’t see how they dance because all the shots were off their faces. And from what I could make out, it wasn’t good either. That hand swerving anime look alike is an average dancer at best.

“empowering the marginal, and embracing change”? I don’t know what they mean by that but I don’t see the musical relevance.

I don’t think these guys will bring anything new to the table. It’s a poorly thought out group with average capabilities. Nothing special. (especially the packaging)

@RR we’re complaining because they are not talented (at least I am). Not because they’re not “pinoy na Pinoy”

I think that what they mean by the group focusing on Filipino culture is that their sound has neo-ethnic undertones in them… try listening carefully and you would hear the gong sounds… like in the dances of the igorots or mindanao hill people….

LOL Didn’t think that Ryan and AJ would be in a P-Pop group srsly.. All I know is that those 2 are fond of dancing.. Ryan was my college classmate and AJ was a co-worker in Jollibee..
